A 2020 MASI GOLD award winning space. Brighter, more inviting and totally universal. This tired high traffic student food hub and study space has been transformed forever.
In working closely with the University of Alberta architectural director, Ben Louie and his team, the design team was able to revitalize the classic pre-cast institutional structure from the 60's, which had a lower level food court and study space left in the loud and unattractive darkness.
The design vision for a lighter, quieter, and connected space where eating, study and student gatherings would all harmoniously come together as one was developed. A six story atrium area was filled with a 100 person seat social stair that connects the main floor to the lower level. The overall $5 million design and construction provides both a gathering space and helps drive traffic to the lower level seating areas for day to day or special event users.
