Canadian Cancer Care

Canada’s first custom-built Cancer Care Centre—spanning over 16,000 ft2 over two storeys and valued at $2.5 million—has set a new benchmark for patient-focused cancer treatment and management. Located in Southeast Edmonton, just 4 km from the Cross Cancer Institute, this purpose-built medical facility introduces a more strategic, community-based approach to oncology care.

Developed in close collaboration with Dr. Chowdhury and Dr. Debenham, the design vision was centred on creating a brighter, warmer, and more welcoming environment—one that moves away from the cold, institutional aesthetic typical of medical spaces. The main floor, at 1,990 ft2, features a refined check-in

reception area, a locally operated coffee shop, and a comfortable overflow seating space. The expansive 13,872 ft2 second floor includes 20 infusion suites with direct visibility from a centrally located nursing station, 30 exam rooms, 15 physician offices, and a spacious bistro for staff and hospital gatherings. A key element of the design is the on-site pharmacy and private consultation room, providing added comfort and convenience for patients as they navigate their care journey.
